Search engine giant Google is commemorating famed artist and cartoonist Winsor McCay with an interactive, animated doodle called "Little Nemo in Google-land" - a spinoff of McCay's hit comic "Little Nemo in Slumberland" which originally appeared in the New York Herald from 1905-1914. To celebrate the 107th anniversary of Little Nemo and his famous dream-like adventures, Google is ready to doodle.

Little Nemo was the main fictional character that appeared in McCay's weekly comic-strip series.
Google regularly features doodles on its homepage to celebrate innovators, artists, and important moments in history - this animated rendition of McCay's "Little Nemo" seems appropriate, considering McCay was well-known for his rather life-like drawings. In the early 20th century, McCay traveled around presenting live vaudeville shows in which he interacted with an onscreen drawing. These sketches were so life-like that many in the audience believed them to be actors dressed in costumes. McCay's early animated films were pioneering and set the stage for many future animation big-names, including Walt Disney.
McCay passed away on July 26, 1934 of a cerebral embolism.
