After space skydiver Felix Baumgartner took his infamous 128,100ft/833.9mph leap above the Earth on Sunday, the 43-year-old claims that he is now ready to finally retire and settle down with his current girlfriend, former beauty queen and model Nicole Oetl. The Austrian couple is set to wed sometime next year. After breaking a world record (as well as the sound barrier), Baumgartner would now like to hunker down with his 26-year-old wife-to-be at a home in Arbon, Switzerland in early 2013, where he plans on hopefully flying helicopters on mountain rescue and firefighting missions in the U.S. and Austria.
An overjoyed and relieved Oetl was the first one to greet Baumgartner after his amazing and monumental Red Bull Stratos jump alongside his thrilled parents. According to Baumgartner, his thoughts just seconds before his fall were: "When I was standing there on top of the world, you become so humble, you do not think about breaking records. The only thing you want is to come back alive."
After such revelation, Baumgartner has decided it is time to return to Earth - and stay there.
"I'm retired from the daredevil business. I want to find a nice decent job as a helicopter pilot. I'll fight fires and rescue people. No e-mails, no phone calls." Baumgartner said in Roswell, New Mexico, after Sunday's feat. And it looks like Oetl will be an important part of that new, quieter future.
Baumgartner met the former Miss Lower Austria at a party in 2006 - they have been together ever since.
"He loves Nicole like mad and now will walk her up the aisle as he has achieved the ultimate in his profession," a friend of Baumgartner recently told the Daily Telegraph.
Baumgartner's amazing space skydive was viewed live by a whopping 8 million YouTube users. Although Baumgartner may be retiring from the daredevil trade, he at least has this remarkable video to go back to in order to relive the glorifying moment again and again (although Baumgartner summed up the experienced as "hell").
At least Baumgartner's next feat isn't to exchange vows with Oetl while falling through space! Congrats to the happy couple!
