If you love the sci-fi buddy comedies, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, then you have to get this awesome Wild Stallyns sequel. Back in hilarious comic book form, Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves) and Bill S. Preston (Alex Winter) are reunited for BOOM! Studios' Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return.

The narrative remains faithful to the film franchise, which reminds readers Bill and Ted are the Two Great Ones in the future. In the past though, they are a bunch of slackers who struggle learning how to play their musical instruments. The laugh-out-loud story by writer Brian Lynch (Angel: After the Fall) takes place right after Bogus Journey ends.

After having the defeated Chuck De Nomolos (played by Joss Ackland), Bill and Ted have to fulfill their destiny and deliver their next big hit. Worried about becoming one-hit wonders, the slacker duo need inspiration before they can achieve galactic harmony. Time traveler Rufus (a wonderful nod to the late George Carlin) arrives to provide wisdom and set them on the right path.

Lynch definitely has the characterizations down pat, especially with his amusing one-liners. Written by someone who clearly loves music, Lynch also throws in references from Jimi Hendrix to the Beatles. Interestingly, it's really about these musical geniuses finding their creative sparks, without letting the trolls and haters get to them.

Artist Jerry Gaylord (Fanboys Vs. Zombies) exaggerates the facial expressions to bring out the slapstick humor. The playful illustrations capture the clothing and hairstyle of the early '90s. Not meant to be scary, The Grim Reaper has a new character design, which works well because of the comical tone. The eye-popping colors by Whitney Cogar makes every page feel vibrant and the characters appear lively.

An engaging and fun read, Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #1 is comical mayhem at its best.
