Season 2 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. came back with a brand new episode on Tuesday entitled "Who You Really Are" that revealed Skye's secret at a pleasantly brisk pace.

It would have been tempting and all too easy for the show to drag out the revelation of Skye's new powers to the rest of the team over the course of multiple episodes to drag out the drama. But Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. seems intent on accelerating the pace this season, so by the end of the hour, the entire team knew about Skye's new Quake powers. We could have had several episodes of Fitz and Skye protecting her secret and Skye making things rumble to the point where it would have been ridiculous that no one else figured out she was doing it, but instead we get to see relatively quickly how the team reacts to her new powers.

And that, really, is the most interesting part of this entire situation. Skye's transformation affects the entire team, not just her. Last week, we had Simmons basically calling for the mass extermination of all powered creatures without the knowledge that her friend had become one of those creatures. Fitz, on the other hand, looked at Skye with sympathy and empathy as a kindred spirit and wanted to protect her.

Now, Skye's secret is no longer a secret, and the team immediately began to debate amongst itself. Fitz immediately jumped to Skye's defense, but moreover he lashed out at Simmons for essentially turning her back on him after he saved her life and literally lost his mind doing it. Simmons and Mack, on the other hand, still see the threat Skye could pose and want to be protected from her.

This situation seems dangerously unhealthy for Skye, which could spell bad news for everybody involved. Skye had a significant problem controlling her powers in this episode even with May comforting her, so imagine how hard it's going to get for her now that she realizes half of her closest friends and allies are scared to death of her or want her to be locked away or worse. What reason does Skye have to try to protect herself and her friends if they aren't willing to do the same for her?

This is also problematic because Coulson's entire rationale to Lady Sif (welcome back, Jaimie Alexander) and the Inhuman Vin-Tak (welcome aboard, Eddie McClintock) for keeping Skye on Earth was to surround her with friends. If that strategy backfires, then what happens?

Skye's secret is out in the open but the danger is far from gone. She knocked herself out with an ICER just to stop herself from shaking everything to dust, and then she locked herself in a cell. Neither of these strategies are long-term solutions, so she'll have to learn to control her powers quickly.

Notes:

- Bobbi and Mack are still scheming and planning...something, but we did get confirmation from Bobbi that they are not Hydra; however, whatever they have up their sleeves will apparently cause the team to turn on them. We'll find out next week.

- "Son of Coul" still makes me laugh.

- This episode incorporated Lady Sif in a way that didn't just feel like a reminder that this show is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

- Poor Hunter is out cold on the floor thanks to Mack. Will he tell Coulson what he knows?
