During a hip-hop routine on Monday night's episode of "Dancing with the Stars," dance contestant Karina Smirnoff fell while attempting a high kick. Immediately following the performance, poor Smirnoff placed her head in her hands and burst into tears, exclaiming to the judges that she felt as if she let her partner, Olympian Apolo Anton Ohno, down in the fierce competition.
Smirnoff seemed shocked that she actually fell, which led to her being utterly upset. But Ohno was there to pick his partner up and support her in the walk over to the judges.
All four judges tried to assure Smirnoff, a professional Ukrainian ballroom dancer, that her slight falter didn't ruin the entire routine, which was all-around good. They even awarded Smirnoff and Ohno a 34.5 out of a possible score of 40. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said she was proud of Smirnoff and the other professional dancers for stepping out of their comfort zones. Judge Len Goodman even said, "Karina, to be honest, I wasn't even looking at you, so I don't care! [Ohno was fantastic!" Even with Smirnoff's fall (which resulted in her mic flying off) the duo managed to finish strong. Check out the routine and Smirnoff's fall/tearful breakdown below (the tumble happens around 45 seconds in):
So what do fans think - did Smirnoff's "DWTS" stumble damage her and Ohno's chances of moving on in the competition?
