New Songs on the Way? Britney Spears Dishes on Music and Motherhood

Britney Spears is working on a new album, she revealed to Billboard. It will be the singer's ninth album and the first since 2013's Britney Jean.

"I'm gonna do [a new album] slowly but surely," Spears, 33, told the magazine. "There's a lot going on with my kids and schools and, you know, adding new sports and stuff like that. I'm gonna try to do my best to do an amazing album, but it's not my full priority right now."

Spears is firmly focused on her family right now. She's raising sons Preston, 9, and Jayden, 8, while reining supreme as the star of her own "Piece of Me" residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The show has been selling out since 2013, grossing more than $42 million in ticket sales.

According to sources, the show increased Planet Hollywood's annual earnings by "about $20 million," and helped turn the hotel's "one-time dismal financial picture into a real profit center."

So it comes as no surprise to learn that Spears is currently in negotiations to extend the residency for another two years.

Because of her busy schedule as a mom and Las Vegas star, the full-length album is taking a bit longer to finish.

The star posted a picture of herself in a recording studio back in September, with the caption, "Studio today! Yay!" to the delight of all her fans.

Earlier this month, she also gushed about the song she recorded with rapper Iggy Azalea, and explained how the collaboration came to be.

"I saw her song on TV and I was like a kid in a candy store," she told Extra. "I was like, 'I love Iggy, I love that video, I want to work with her,' and it was really weird, because a week after that her manager was like, 'She's a huge fan of yours.' I was like, 'Let's do something together,' so it worked out."

Details about the song's release are scarce, but the track is reportedly going to be the lead single off of Spears' forthcoming album.
