Season 3 of the CW's Arrow will be back next week, and fans learned earlier this week the plot of Episode 18, entitled "Public Enemy." The episode features the return of Charlotte Ross as Felicity's mother and also focuses hevily on Captain Lance (Paul Blackthorne). But could the two characters wind up...together?

The buzz started when Blackthorne posted a behind-the-scenes photo of himself and Ross goofing around. TVLine asked the actor about the possibility of a romantic spark between the two characters.

What are the chances for SmoaknLance happening on Arrow? –Nikki
I like your thinking, giving Laurel’s sad dad some happiness in the form of Felicity’s got-it-going-on mom. And Paul Blackthorne himself noticed that when he tweeted out this selfie of him and Charlotte Ross, 'It did seem to go down well!' He thus seconds the 'SmoaknLance' idea, saying, 'I think that Lance deserves some loving in his life, don’t you? And I think it’d be hilarious. He’d be sitting there across from her at dinner thinking, ‘What is this in front of me?’ and at the same time, ‘Why am I so attracted to what’s in front of me?’ I think it’d be a brilliant couple, because they’re obviously so different yet seemingly so perfect in a crazy way, so I hope it happens.' As for whether it does happen during Ross’ Episode 18 encore, you’ll just have to stay tuned."

In case you missed it, here is the official description for the episode:

"DONNA SMOAK RETURNS — During an attack on the mayor's office, Ray (Brandon Routh) is critically injured. Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) is pleasantly surprised when her mother, Donna Smoak (guest star Charlotte Ross), shows up at the hospital to offer her support. With the SCPD out in full force looking for the assailant, Oliver (Stephen Amell) and his team work hard to stay onestep ahead of the police to find the man responsible. However, things come to a head when Ra's al Ghul (guest star Matt Nable) kidnaps Captain Lance (Paul Blackthorne). Dwight Little directed the episode written by Marc Guggenheim & Wendy Mericle."

Perhaps Ra's kidnaps Lance to force Oliver into accepting his offer to take over the League of Assassins. This would also help explain Blackthorne's previous comments that the relationship between Lance and Team Arrow, which has been cooperative for a while now, becomes more hostile. Does the Arrow become the public enemy in the episode's title?
