Following the first round of the 2012 Presidential Debates earlier in October, MSNBC host Chris Matthews had what many viewers considered a hysterical, on-air meltdown over President Barack Obama's rather lackluster performance. Not too long after, SNL mocked his ridiculous Debate reaction in a comedy skit, with funnyman Jason Sudekis (portraying Matthews) shouting at one point, "Disappointed! I've never been so disgusted in my life! I feel bad for whoever had to move the podiums afterwards, because Obama took a giant dump behind his!" Surprisingly, Matthews has responded to the SNL sketch in a rather refined way, insisting that the portrayal was indeed funny, but not altogether accurate.

Catch both videos below - first Matthews' initial freak-out and then the amusing SNL response:

New York magazine managed to catch up with Matthews over the weekend at Comedy Central's Night of Too Many Stars autism research benefit and asked, "So, what did you think of Sudekis' portrayal of you on SNL?" Evidently Matthews believes he's not so "livid" in real life:

"It's not exactly accurate, but it is funny. I think I am not as loud as they have me. I think I am a little more subtle than those guys are. But Jason plays me loud. I think it's all good."

Even so, at least Matthews acknowledges that he's not the calmest person out there. When New York magazine goes on to ask just where the "Hardball with Chris Matthews" host gets all of his robust energy, he chuckles and responds, "If you only knew, if you only knew."

So what do fans think of Matthews' reaction to the SNL parody? Was it indeed a little over-the-top?

Which was funnier? The SNL Chris Matthews skit, or the one poking fun of Biden and Ryan during their VP Debate? Check it out.
