Dinesh D'Souza resigned from his post as President at the evangelical Christian King's College in Manhattan amid a sex affair scandal involving his soon-to-be ex-wife and current fiancée. Although D'Souza denies the extramarital relationship, World magazine reported on Tuesday that the 51-year-old conservative pundit recently got engaged to a young woman while still married to his wife. According to reports, D'Souza brought his 29-year-old fiancée to a religious conference in September and they shared a hotel room together - Kings' chairman of the board of trustees Andy Mills then announced D'Souza's resignation on Thursday.
D'Souza, director of the controversial anti-Obama documentary "2016: Obama's America," stepped down from his post after the Christian publication revealed that he recently became engaged to his girlfriend of three-months Denise Joseph - however, he is still legally married to his wife of 20 years, Dixie Brubaker (although they separated in 2010). The World claims that at September's "Truth for a New Generation" conference D'Souza went around introducing Joseph as his fiancée - it wasn't until a few days later he managed to file divorce papers from Brubaker.
Apparently, D'Souza also spent the night with Joseph after the conference - something which leaders at the Christian academic institution strongly disapprove of.
In an opinion piece written on FoxNews.com, D'Souza considers the World claims "pure libel":
"I had no idea that it is considered wrong in Christian circles to be engaged prior to being divorced, even though in a state of separation and in divorce proceedings... Obviously, I would not have introduced Denise as my fiancée at a Christian apologetics conference if I had thought or known I was doing something wrong," he wrote. "But as a result of all this, and to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, Denise and I have decided to suspend our engagement." (Although just the day before D'Souza told the AP that his engagement to Joseph was off).
King's College accepted D'Souza's resignation on Thursday (Oct. 18), "to allow him to attend to his personal and family needs," said Mills.
