EA Sports' 'Rory Mcilroy PGA Tour' Gameplay Trailer Debuts PS4 & Xbox One Cover For June! [WATCH]

EA Sports rebrands its golf videogame series with the upcoming June release of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. After a one-year hiatus, not only has the gameplay trailer been released, the professional golfer makes his debut as the cover athlete when the game arrives on PS4 and Xbox One.

According to ESPN, EA Sports had built its PGA Tour series around Tiger Woods since 1998. Woods and EA ended their relationship back in 2013, when the famous player was still No. 1 in the world. McIlroy joined Woods and Seve Ballesteros as the three shared the European cover in Tiger Woods PGA Tour '14.

In his press statement, which can be seen on the official website, McIIroy describes his excitement being on the cover, "Playing video games is one of the ways I try to relax in my downtime, and one of my favorite video games was golf. That's what makes today's announcement so exciting to me. I am on the cover of EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR and it's named after me. That is crazy! I am more excited than I can possibly put into words."

Yahoo! Sports reports Electronic Arts has also revealed that Golf Channel's own Rich Lerner and Frank Nobilo will provide the game's commentary track. This will be the first in the EA Sports series to use the new Frostbite technology, which will provide sharper pictures and eliminate load times between golf holes. The game will have realistic depictions of real-world courses, detailed fairways and greens; plus new modes and features.

On the official Twitter account for EA Sports' Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, the caption states, "Welcome to #NextGenGolf. @McIlroyRory is our new Cover Athlete!"

As we previously mentioned, during the second round of the 2014 PGA Tour championship, McIlroy's tee shot landed right into a golf fan's pocket. The 25-year-old golfer was amused by this extraordinary trick shot as he arrived to greet his fan.
