'Hateful 8' Trailer, Release Date News, Cast Rumors [SPOILERS] Quentin Tarantino Wanted Viggo Mortensen, Actor Talks Missed Opportunity

We learned of the complete cast list for the upcoming, highly anticipated new movie from filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, The Hateful Eight (stylized as H8ful Eight), but one name movie fans were excited to see on the list was absent: Viggo Mortensen. Rumors and reports had the actor apparently in talks to join the cast of the 2015 film, but when the announcement came, we learned that he didn't get the role. This week, the actor revealed that these rumors were true, but an intense filming schedule to get the movie released later this year resulted in the Lord of the Rings star to turn down the opportunity. Mortensen explained that he wished it worked out, though, and hopes to work with Tarantino on another project.

Speaking with Grantland this week (via The Hollywood Reporter), Mortensen revealed that his commitment to other projects like Far From Men and Juaja meant he had to turn down his Hateful Eight opportunity.

"Yeah, we did meet. ... [Tarantino] wanted to start shooting at the end of the year and do rehearsals before that, and I just couldn't do that schedule-wise. That's the only reason [I passed on the project]," Mortensen revealed. "It would have been really, really fun to work with [Tarantino]. I think he's really smart and funny."

He continued, "I wish [The Hateful Eight] would have worked out, but that's what I'm talking about - you either see these films through to the end or you don't."
