A 30-year-old man with Down syndrome has invited political savvy Ann Coulter to take part in Special Olympics, where she can possibly become sensitive against using R-word publicly.
The man identified himself as John Franklin Stephens wrote an open letter to Coulter, explaining that the life of people, who have intellectual disabilities is more challenging than those with stable minds.
"After I saw your tweet, I realized you just wanted to belittle the President by linking him to people like me. You assumed that people would understand and accept that being linked to someone like me is an insult and you assumed you could get away with it and still appear on TV," asked Stephens on guest post in the World of Special Olympics blog.
"Well, Ms. Coulter, you, and society, need to learn that being compared to people like me should be considered a badge of honor," he said. "No one overcomes more than we do and still loves life so much."
Coulter came under intense criticism, following her jibe on micro-blogging site, targeting President Barack Obama, soon after the end of the Presidential debate on Tuesday. She used the word "retarded" against the incumbent American President on her Twitter Page. "I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard," she wrote.
Coulter is said to have used the R-word for the second time in three months. According to reports, parents of differently-abled children have demanded of her to tender an apology for using the R-word in her tweet.
Coulter was literally twitter-attacked on Tuesday, with people slamming her alleged insensitivity in choice of words. Her controversial tweet literally went viral with over 3278 re-tweets and with about 1,365 users making it their favorite.
Her statement on the social website drew mixed reaction. While some criticized for Coulter's choice of words against the President, some took her side for taking on Obama.
Below are some of the Tweets in response to what Coulter Tweeted:
@AnnCoulter You disgust me. That man is the president of this country. (& I'm sure all of the disabled children in America appreciate you.)," tweeted actress Sophia Bush.
"People w/ intellectual differences are powerful contributors to society. Time @AnnCoulter recognizes them as leaders of dignity revolution!," @TimShriver.
"@AnnCoulter The word "retard" demeans my child & millions of people with intellectual disability. Are you not aware, or do you not care?" @LoveThatMax.
"@AnnCoulter I cant believe you have the audacity to respond in such a disrespectful manner to not only the POTUS but also millions of others," @firehazardcs
"Maybe when @AnnCoulter called Obama a retard, she meant "R.E.T.A.R.D." - "Re-elect This Remarkable American!" #USA!," @robdelaney.
