Vin Diesel has made a bold Oscar prediction and doesn't care if you agree or not. He's sticking to it. According to Diesel, Furious 7 is not only set to be Universal's biggest movie, but it will also win the ultimate prize of Best Picture. The movie was Paul Walker's final film.

Here's the exact quote from Variety.

"Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie," the Furious 7 star told the magazine. "It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don't want to be relevant ever."

If Diesel's prediction is spot-on, then the tragedy of Paul Walker's death in the midst of shooting the movie that will premiere April 3 will have somehow ended in triumph. Following Walker's accident in 2013, Furious 7 had to be rewritten and scenes that required Walker either used stand-ins or were touched up using special effects.

Diesel said the last chapter of the Furious saga would be an emotional one.

"We were successful in one-upping the action sequences and adding an interesting dynamic to the world," Diesel continued. "What the world won't anticipate is how emotionally powerful the movie is."

Furious 7 was fantastically reviewed at SXSW last week, so maybe Diesel won't be off. Historically, the Academy doesn't exactly go with fan favorites and likes to take the artistic route, but maybe things will be different this time around.

According to the Variety article, the Oscar viewership was down 16 percent this year, so having an emotional win by an unlikely movie such as Furious 7 might create some intrigue for future shows. Granted, Leonardo DiCaprio may cry because they chose to do this with a Vin Diesel movie and not the glitzy Wolf of Wall Street.
