It's April Fools' Day. What that means is that throughout this entire 24-hour period most of us will be tiptoeing around certain stories, hearsays, rumors and more, just in case we find ourselves the unfortunate victim of an April Fools' Day hoax or prank. And while we all pretend to love the day, the truth is that sometimes its just plain annoying... and mean. Luckily, HBO's Last Week Tonight host John Oliver is prepared to take the faux-holiday down a peg.

In a new bit from the HBO news comedy, Oliver talks about the truths of April Fools' Day––like how it was started by Franklin D. Roosevelt as a way to boost morale during the depression.

Nope, not true at all, but a pretty cool idea nonetheless, no?

Oliver's below bit discusses the often mean-spirited truths that pranks hold, saying that it's better to "stop being a d*ck" and get on with the day as if it were a normal one. Or, at the very least, coin it as the day we should all remember that we really need to get those taxes done.

Which leads us to a question: did you finish your taxes, readers? Because we didn't...

Oliver and his crew took the week off because the comedian is busy mirroring some actions he discovered on HBO's The Jinx, but for more, less-murder-y bits, head on over to their official site.

So, who took the Last Week Tonight No-Prank Pledge? Don't lie! If you do, Oliver will have no choice but to Robert Durst you. #AprilFools
