The cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore" is set to host a live fundraising event for victims of Hurricane Sandy, a gigantic storm which devastated most parts of the East Coast (especially the shorelines) on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012. The money raised during the event will also go towards rebuilding the town of Seaside Heights and its infamous boardwalk, a location which achieved worldwide fame thanks to MTV's hit summertime reality show.
MTV recently announced that a Hurricane Sandy fundraiser deemed "Restore the Shore" will broadcast live from MTV headquarters in Time Square, NYC on Thursday, November 15 from 11 p.m. - 12 a.m. E.T. The event will feature the entire "Jersey Shore" cast - Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio, Vinny Guadagnino, Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, Deena Cortese, and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro. Other special guests will also be in attendance and will be announced later on. MTV partnered with the non-profit org Architecture for Humanity - most of the money raised will go directed towards the rebuilding of the famed Seaside Heights boardwalk. Funds raised will also support the re-building efforts of businesses and residents in the community.
MTV urges viewers to donate online or through text message during and after the live event.
Many fans have reached out to the "Jersey Shore" cast (especially on Twitter), claiming that it is their "duty" to help restore the shore. Snooki , who has consistently urged her Twitter followers to get involved and help volunteer in Hurricane Sandy relief efforts since last Monday, tweeted this on Nov. 5:
@snooki: "#restoretheshore! @MTV, @archforhumanity and I are coming together to help re-build Seaside stronger than ever. Join us November 15 on MTV."
Just last Friday (Nov. 2), NBC aired a Sandy fundraiser featuring live musical guests such as Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi that helped raise $23 million. Hopefully MTV's efforts will produce the same results.
Hurricane Sandy devastated many states on the East Coast - the storm destroyed millions of homes on the Jersey Shore, and the legendary Seaside Heights Boardwalk was demolished - many of the iconic rides and attractions now reside under the Atlantic Ocean. Even after restoration efforts, the "New" Jersey Shore will look nothing like the "Old" Jersey Shore. Still, New Jerseyians remain positive - #JerseyStrong.
