On Tuesday evening, November 6, 2012, Barack Obama was reelected President of the United States of America for the 2012-2016 presidential term (defeating political rival Mitt Romney, 303 electoral votes to 206). Following the monumental event, Obama took to his official Twitter account to thank fans and supporters. Along with a number of grateful tweets, an image was then posted of President Obama in a sweet, intimate embrace with his First Lady, Michelle Obama. The Twitpic was simply deemed, "Four more years." The image has been retweeted so many times since Tuesday evening, that it even set a Twitter world record. As of 11 a.m. on Wednesday (Nov. 7), the Twitpic has been retweeted over a whopping 664,000 times, and "favorited" by over 226,000 Twitter followers.

The image posted above was not a spontaneous reaction captured in response to the 2012 presidential election, but Obama seems to hope that it will come to personify his next four years in office - joy, trust, strength, support, and confidence.

The Obama campaign tweeted the image a little after 11 p.m. - just 40 minutes after posting it, it already had 308,705 retweets.

Here were some Twitter reactions to the massively retweeted image:

@JustinsBlondie: "@BarackObama awww so cute! congrats mr. obama! the world loves you."

@macv1969: "@BarackObama May God bless you and show you the way. I 'm really proud of your battle."

@WeldBudhabi: "@BarackObama Congratulations, Mr. President Obama, dont forget what we have agreed upon."

Along with the intimate photo of the Head of State and his First Lady embracing, here are some other positive messages Obama's Twitter page sent out following his election victory:

@BarackObama: "This happened because of you. Thank you."

@BarackObama: "We're all in this together. That's how we campaigned, and that's who we are. Thank you. -bo."

So what do Mstarz think? Do Obama's encouraging messages and blissful Twitpic provide hope? Or do you still think Romney would have made a better president... or did you not support either candidate? Voice your opinions below.
