Scarlett Johansson is a modern-day starlet. She has done a lot of great things in film, from being the Black Widow in The Avengers to having a small yet entertaining cameo as the girlfriend to the oblivious-to-Twitter cook in Chef to working with Woody Allen. Now it's rumored that she may be taking up the iconic role of Julie Adams in the Universal Pictures remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon. The opportunity for Johansson opened last year when she starred in Universal's Lucy. It has being said that during her time shooting the movie she was offered the lead as Adams.

If the remake will be anything like the 1954 Creature from the Black Lagoon, there will be a lot of screaming and kidnapping on the part of Johansson. For a woman who has snuck her way out of the arms of the KGB and fought side-by-side with Captain America, this is different casting than what she has done in the past. If anything, it might be her first damsel-in-distress role in a major motion picture.

Of course, this movie may not happen at all, and the Johansson/Adams connection might be another fart in the wind for the long history of Creature of the Black Lagoon remake failures. This project has almost come into fruition a few times.

At one one point, directors John Carpenter, Breck Eisner and Guillermo Del Toro were all said to be taking up the Black Lagoon mantle, but those opportunities fell by the wayside. For the first time, though, there is a big enough lead to play Adams that maybe this movie has more of a shot of coming about than the previous attempts.

Larger Than Life and Strike Entertainment will be producing the remake and the script was written by the team of Jeff Blitz, Gary Ross, Tedi Sarafian and Paul Schering.
