DC Comics Moves Offices to California So It's Closer to Warner Bros. Studios

You know the nerds have taken over when the East Coast and West Coast war went from Biggie and Tupac to Marvel and DC. After being in New York for more than 75 years, Friday, April 10, marked the last official day of the DC Comics offices being headquartered in New York City. All operations in Manhattan will now be relocated to Burbank, California. The move served two functions: One was so that the New York and California offices can merge and the other is so DC can be closer to Warner Bros. studios.

DC made the big announcement Friday morning on Facebook:

"DC Comics has been part of New York City -- and vice versa -- for decades. As we prepare to complete the move to our Burbank headquarters we want to thank the people of New York and all those who have worked in the office there for being an important part of our history. It's never easy to say goodbye but we are excited about the future and everything it holds."

With the West Coast move, DC is giving its staff two months to make a transition, so all regular titles will be suspended for two months. What it'll instead be doing is putting out a Convergence miniseries. Once DC makes its return, it plans on cancelling two titles. Those cancellations have yet to be announced.

Another plan DC has following the move is allowing its writers to work on stories without being attaching their work to everything going on in DC. This move is pretty much the exact opposite of what Marvel is doing. Its main focus is tying in the comics with all its movies and TV shows.

Batman editor Mark Doyle told Comics Alliance that there is no need to worry about this affecting DC's teamwork.

"I don't think moving the offices will stop any collaboration," he said. "We're not moving to Antarctica. There are a lot of flights to L.A. It should be fine."
