Barbara Walters spoke out on Monday's episode of "The View" about Lindsay Lohan cancelling their long-planned interview that was set to take place this month.

Lohan was to appear on ABC's "20/20" in an exclusive, in-depth interview with Walters to promote her upcoming Lifetime film "Liz & Dick," a biopic about Elizabeth Taylor and her long and tumultuous relationship with Richard Burton.

But Deadline reported last week that Lohan's new press representatives cancelled the appearance because they didn't like the direction the interview was headed.

Not only did Lohan cancel on Walters, but she also scheduled another interview for the same week, this time on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.

Walters remarked on the situation at the very beginning of the latest episode of "The View."

"I have a few things to say about Lindsay Lohan," Walters began. "I like Lindsay Lohan very much. I've known her for years, since when she was a child star [and] very vulnerable. And she said when she would do an interview, she would sit down and do it with me."

Walters said she put much time and effort into preparing for the interview before Lohan pulled out. Walters did extensive research on Lohan, watched the "Liz & Dick" film in its entirety and devised a long set of questions for the 26-year-old actress.

Then she got word from Lohan's new public relations team that the interview was off.

"Why is it cancelled?" Walters said on "The View." "Lindsay doesn't feel up to it. Well, I mean, she has a lot of problems and it was just one more, and I said poor girl, I hope when she feels like it she'll do it."

Then came the bad news.

"The punch line - Lindsay Lohan is sitting for an interview with Jay Leno," Walters said.

Despite the fact that Lohan reneged on her commitment, Walters closed the segment by saying she was happy for her colleague Leno, and she sent well wishes to Lohan.

"I wish Lindsay the best. We would have done a wonderful interview. I hope she feels well," Walters said.
