According to reports, actor Matthew McConaughey dropped a shocking 30 pounds for his upcoming role as an AIDS patient who seeks experimental HIV drugs in the mid-1980s in the film "The Dallas Buyer's Club." McConaughey achieved the significant weight loss by basically not eating - the "Magic Mike" star once told Larry King that not consuming food is "a bit of a spiritual and mental cleanse." Even if that is the case, McConaughey's new, slight figure is indeed startling (compared to his muscled physique in "Magic Mike").

Photos of a skinnier and frail McConaughey hit the web this weekend, prompting rumors of some sort of sudden illness or sickness. Even though the extreme weight loss was specifically achieved for a movie role, some critics believe McConaughey took things too far, ultimately risking his health for a fictional character. McConaughey quickly shed the pounds thanks to a vigorous exercise routine and a diet that cut out many carbs and fatty acids (and apparently most foods in general). The result - a somewhat scary and meager looking McConaughey, who was voted People's "Sexiest Man Alive" back in 2005.

McConaughey admits to Larry King, "It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off itself, and that you're not going to give it something else from the outside. I should not look healthy by the time I'm doing this."

McConaughey isn't the only celeb who recently shed a stunning amount of weight for a specific movie role - actress Anne Hathaway supposedly lost 25 pounds for her upcoming role in "Les Miserables," draining the starlet both physically and mentally. Now that filming is done, Hathaway can't wait to get back to her "normal" life. Will the same go for McConaughey? Looks like only time will tell, he just flew from Los Angeles to New Orleans where "The Dallas Buyer's Club" began filming on Sunday.

So what do Mstarz readers think about MConaughey's lankier figure? Does it worry you?
