An alleged kidnapping of a teenage girl has kept the police busy combing the hills east of downtown Los Angeles.

Officers on foot and horseback along with sniffer dogs raided the fields spread over  455 acres in the El Sereno hills in search of the allegedly abducted girl. A helicopter was also called in to join the search effort, according to reports.

The search was called off late Tuesday night. However, at the end of several hours of search, the squad claimed to have found leggings and tennis shoes, which were speculated to belong to the girl in question.

Witnesses claimed that a young man roughed up an apparently teenage girl and dragged her up the hills by her hair. They also claimed that the man pulled off some of her clothes.

The police are still to find any lead to trace the whereabouts of the alleged victim.

Media reports have it that the girl in question was at least 13-years-old and the man was aged between 18 and 20. A witness reported to the police that both seemed to be engaged in an intense argument Monday night, after which the man dragged her up the hills by her hair and even hit her in the face.

Police have released sketches of both the alleged suspect and the victim.

"That argument escalated to the point where the male struck the female at least once in the face and then began to drag her up into the brush area by the hair," police Lt. Andy Neiman said, according to Associated Press. He also added that the witness who saw the incident also reported that the man in question removed some of the girl's clothing.

The police department said that it would continue to investigate into the missing case until officials identify the alleged victim or something turns up. "We continue to reach out to the public; we hope whoever was involved in this will come forward. Maybe we'll get additional witnesses. Someone will recall seeing something or someone will say 'it was me and my boyfriend," Los Angeles police Commander Andrew Smith said, according to Whittierdailynews.com.
