There are only two episodes left for Season 4 of Person of Interest on CBS. In Episode 20, Terra Incognita, will Finch (Michael Emerson) be too late to save Reese (Jim Caviezel) from the Grim Reaper when Joss Carter (Taraji P. Henson) revisits them from beyond the grave?

The opening begins with a flashback, with Finch and Reese on a stakeout. Finch is upset that their dog, Bear, has been chomping on his expensive booths. When Carter steps into their car, Finch knows his shift is over and it's her turn.

In the present, Finch gets a new number while Reese has discovered a robbery gone wrong. It seems The Machine has missed an attack between Dominick and Elias. While Reese investigates his new POI, Chase Patterson (Zachary Booth), Finch asks Root (Amy Acker), who's wearing a wedding dress by the way, for help on his case.

At police headquarters, Reese discovers Patterson refers to one of Carter's unsolved cases. Fusco (Kevin Chapman) discovers something is up with Reese because he doesn't respond to his comeback. Fusco and Finch are quite shocked at the lengths Root will go through to get her info.

In the flashback within a flashback, Carter investigates the murder of Chase's family. Chase was at the cabin getting high when his parents were murdered. Carter interrogates Chase, realizing he is a junkie but that doesn't make him a killer.

Reese retraces Carter's steps as he makes his way to Chase's cabin. Chase has returned after 7 years since the murders and it looks like he hasn't given up on the drugs. When Chase sneaks up on Reese and tells him the drugs aren't his, that's when Reese gets shot.

Chase's brother has waited 7 long years to get revenge. First, Chase is forced to overdose on his drugs. Then Reese is dragged into the snow where Chase's brother intends to bury him.

In the flashback, Carter and Reese are talking about the fate and how you cannot change it. Reese knows he is meant to be alone and there is nothing he can do stop that. It turns out this isn't a flashback, it's a hallucination.

Reese wakes up and finds Chase's brother dead. He had shot him and gotten inside his car. With the bullet inside him, Reese has to fight to stay alive to save Chase from overdosing. Unfortunately, the car has run out of gas.

Reese gave up on his true love because he thought being alone would make him live longer. Carter reminds him there are people who truly care abut him and love him. While Reese continues talking with Carter, Finch is worried about Reese, wondering why he hasn't called back.

Realizing the end is near, Reese asks Carter to hold his hand, but she says it's not too late for him. Reese suddenly sees two headlights and turns to find Carter gone.

5 Thoughts on the episode:

1) During the stakeout, notice how it's Finch, Reese, and Fusco getting into the car with Carter. It's a nice reunion of the original cast.

2) Carter started out as a memory, then a ghost,  becoming Death, and finally Reese's moral conscience. She's all kinds of metaphors!

3) First they put Amy Acker in a giant teddy bear suit and now she's wearing a wedding dress! Really, what are those writers smoking because I want what they're having.

4) Finally we're back to the mob war between Dominick and Elias, which I think is more interesting than Samaritan vs. the Machine.

5) How many cases did Carter leave unsolved? She could come back again.
