Former WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist Chamique Holdsclaw was arrested for aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and reckless conduct on Thursday (Nov. 15) after smashing in the car windows and firing a gun at former teammate and ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Lacy. According to reports, the violent incident occurred on Tuesday (Nov. 13), when Holdsclaw followed Lacy to a friend's house, where she then smashed in the windows of Lacy's SUV and fired a 9-mm pistol into the vehicle before fleeing the scene. Holdsclaw turned herself in to Atlanta police after an arrest warrant was issued on Thursday evening - she remained in jail on a $10,000 bond as of Friday morning.

Holdsclaw and Lacy were former WNBA teammates on the Atlanta Dream - the two women were also romantically involved at one point in time. Lacy told police that Holdsclaw approached her in a parking lot Tuesday evening and asked to put some things in her car. Lacy then smelt gasoline emanating from her SUV Range Rover, so quickly hopped in the vehicle and drove off. Holdsclaw got in her own car and quickly pursued Lacy to her friend's house. Once the duo arrived, Holdsclaw jumped out of her vehicle and began smashing the windows of Lacy's SUV with a baseball bat. The police report then states that Holdsclaw pulled out a 9-mm handgun and fired inside the Range Rover. According to local news station WSBTV, Holdsclaw may have poured gasoline in the car beforehand and was attempting to cause a deadly explosion when she fired the gun into the vehicle. When nothing happened, and Lacy remained unharmed, Holdsclaw fled the scene.

Holdsclaw, who played 12 successful seasons in the WNBA (up until 2010), describes battling depression and mental health issues in an autobiography entitled "Breaking Through: Beating The Odds Shot After Shot" published last spring. She admits to attempting suicide in 2006 by overdosing on medication that she was originally prescribed for clinical depression. She recently began a career as a speaker and an advocate for mental health.

Lacy, who was recruited by the WNBA in 2006 and currently plays for the Detroit Shock, went unharmed in the violent attack. She released a public statement through Shock which states, "I want to thank my family, friends, fans and Shock family for their concern during this difficult time. I have never felt more love from my fans in supporting me."

Holdsclaw tweeted this message out on Tuesday, apparently referring to the aggravated assault:

@Chold1: "Everything is a lesson learned. We all make decisions good and bad. As long as we grow from them that's all that matters. #lessonlearned."
