Nicole Delien, a 17-year-old from Pennsylvania, may just be the real life Sleeping Beauty. Thanks to a rare sleeping disorder called Kleine-Levine, or "Sleeping Beauty Syndrome," the young teenager slept for a whopping 64 days straight last year - right through Christmas! According to reports, Delien laid down to catch some z's right around Thanksgiving time, and didn't fully wake up until January - her longest sleeping episode yet.

According to Delien's mother Vicki, who recently spoke to Pittsburgh's local CBS channel KDKA, her daughter can sometimes sleep up to 18-19 hours per day - she only wakes up to eat and use the bathroom and remains in a "sleepwalking state which she doesn't remember" the entire time. She then promptly returns back to bed and falls asleep.

It took the Delien family numerous trips to the hospital to figure out exactly what was going on with Nicole's bizarre sleep pattern - Vicki admits that it was very "frustrating" to try and get a direct diagnosis for her daughter. After several doctors' appointments which resulted in no real answers, a medic at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh finally diagnosed Nicole with "Sleeping Beauty Syndrome." The doctor offered some suggestions on how to manage the rare disorder, including using medication. The Deliens claim that because of the medication, Nicole's sleeping episodes are now wider spread and less frequent.

During her 64-day sleeping episode, Nicole (who has a younger brother and sister who don't suffer from the disorder) ultimately missed out on Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, and the family's first trip to Disney World. Nicole was also looking forward to finally being able to meet pop star Katy Perry at the time - when the "Fireworks" songstress learned of Nicole's rare disorder, she made sure that the teen was able to visit her backstage at a recent performance in Connecticut.

According to a report in the Oxford Journals, symptoms of Kleine-Levin Syndrome include "excessive sleeping, disorientation, hallucination, child-like behavior, binge-eating, and periods of hyper-sexuality when awake." The cause of the rare disorder is unknown, but it predominately affects young males.

Nicole's last sleeping episode was in March. She admits to KDKA that she's scared of when it will happen again.

The Deliens also appeared on a recent episode of "Survivor" host Jeff Probst's talk show to make sure other families are made more aware of the rare sleeping disorder.
