The cast of Everybody Loves Raymond took an unexpected tragic hit this week. One of the show's stars, Sawyer Sweeten, son of character Raymond Barone, committed suicide. He was 19 years old.

Sweeten played the role of Geoffrey Barone from 1996 to 2005. His twin brother Sullivan also played his TV brother Michael Barone.

The cast made statements on the tragedy on Friday, April 24. Comedian and Everybody Loves Raymond star Ray Romano said he was shocked by Sawyer's apparent suicide.

"I'm shocked, and terribly saddened, by the news about Sawyer," Ramone said. "He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family, and his friends during this very difficult time."

Patricia Heaton took to Twitter to offer her condolences on Sawyer's death.

Doris Roberts, Raymond's television mother, was saddened by his passing.

"It is with great sadness that I learned the news that Sawyer Sweeten, who played my grandson Geoffrey Barone on 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' died at his family's home in Texas," she said. "He was a very sweet young man who will be dearly missed."

A family representative broke the news late Thursday evening. They said he was weeks away from turning 20 years old. The representative also said that the family wants their privacy and instead of reaching out to them, to reach out to the ones we love.

Sweeten and his brother were 16 months old when they made their debut on Everybody Loves Raymond in 1996. While with the show, the two shared roles for the Disney Channel show Even Stevens and had a small dual role for the 2002 show Frank McKlusky, C.I.
