Some critics may view Alana Thompson and her crazy southern, proud-to-be-redneck family (stars of TLC's hit reality show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo"), as complete "trash," but artist Jason Mecier takes the term "trashy" to a whole new level with his colorful Honey Boo Boo junk portrait! The San Francisco-based artist, who immortalizes many famous pop stars in very unconventional, custom art designs, constructed a unique mosaic of the seven-year-old beauty pageant queen wannabe made entirely of trash! Is that an old, raggedly Cabbage Patch Kid that flanks Honey Boo Boo's peace-sign flaunting arm? Why, yes it is!
Mecier - "a man of considerable humor and imagination," reads his bio - has spent over 15 years carefully collecting rubbish and everyday garbage in order to creatively use such "junk" to construct his masterful modern artwork. The unique artist insists that many celebrities have bought the original work they inspired. Each one of his creations takes at least 50 hours to complete, this recent Honey Boo Boo Child portrait included:
Mecier incorporated many Honey Boo Boo-esque items into the art piece, including: coupons, butter, sketti, cans of hair spray and Red Bull, toilet paper rolls, pigs feet, cheese balls, makeup, tiaras , a Cabbage Patch doll, a chicken nugget, and more. The chicken nugget is especially fitting... Alana just recently got a pet chicken named Nugget -"[Her] and nugget have become very attached this weekend and it is in the house but has an outside house too but alana refuses to let her sleep outside lol she sleeps inside at night in her inside cage," Mama June writes on the official Alana Thompson Facebook page.
Mecier jokes, "No roadkill was injured during the making of this portrait!" But the artwork does include over 25 pounds of trash!
Check out some of Mecier's other amazing designs, including a portrait of Whitney Houston made entirely of pills, here. And here is Mecier's online portfolio.
Wonder if the Thompson clan will invest in the Honey Boo Boo junk portrait?
