Before premiering his Late Show on CBS this coming Sept. 8, comedian Stephen Colbert decided to help out public school teachers in his home state of South Carolina... in a HUGE way. It's being reported that the former Colbert Report host donated an astonishing $800,000 to fund a number of grant requests from public school teachers – actually, all of the grant requests.

That's right; Stephen Colbert donated almost $1 million to help out the public school teachers of his home state using the proceeds from selling off the old set of The Colbert Report.

So, he's funny and charitable.

While gearing up for his Late Show premiere, Colbert stopped over at his elementary school in Greenville, SC, to make the announcement. He revealed that he's joining the likes of Share Fair Nation and ScanSource in order to fund all of the grant requests made by over 800 teachers in a reported 375 schools via DonorsChoose.org, according to the Daily Kos.

Per the publication, "Colbert made the announcement on a live video feed Thursday at a surprise event at Alexander Elementary School in Greenville."

Perhaps the publication said it best with, "Wow. Just wow."

Colbert has been a supporter of many places in which he's lived. In fact, he famously pushed the Montclair Film Festival on The Colbert Report numerous times, having been and still is a resident of Montclair, New Jersey.

The comedian was recently spotted out in Montclair alongside veteran comic Jerry Seinfeld. The two were reportedly filming a new episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
