It's being reported that an Amtrak train derailed in Philadelphia late last night, leaving six dead and 146 injured – as of right now. At the moment, rescue workers are searching inside the wreckage for more bodies and injured passengers, and have been doing so for hours.

According to reports from CNN, those found are immediately being sent to Temple University Hospital. With the six who have died, eight more are considered to be in critical condition, per an analysis from a doctor at Temple.

Following the derailment, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter spoke with press, telling them that the crash site was an "absolute, disastrous mess." In fact, he further claimed that he had never seen anything like it in his life.

The train's path was from Washington to New York. CNN notes that it was carrying 238 passengers as well as five crewmembers.

Around 9:30 p.m. last night in the Philadelphia neighborhood of Port Richmond, the Amtrak train derailed and the cars were immediately ripped apart. The derailment was so major that seven train cars flew from the track, with the engine appearing completely distorted.

The U.S. Department of Transportation told CNN, "We have confirmed an engine and all seven cars derailed. ... We do not know what happened here. We do not know why it happened."
