"50 Shades of Grey" enthusiasts are still eagerly awaiting news of the official casting for the highly-anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James' erotica novel. There is still no sign that such decisions will be made anytime soon, but fans can now most likely cross Channing Tatum off the list as a Christian Grey contender. According to reports, Tatum plans on putting his acting career on hold in 2013 in order to focus on directing and producing - so unless he decides to work on "Fifty Shades of Grey" behind-the-scenes, there's probably little chance that the "Sexiest Man Alive" will be involved in the film. In other Christian Grey-related news, author E.L. James recently admitted that she isn't just paying attention to great looks when casting the part (although that is a main factor). The lucky guy who takes on the steamy role must also have emotional intelligence and a relatable sense of humor. Which male actor do Mstarz fans think best fits that description?
After starring in a number of hits in 2012, including "Magic Mike" and "21 Jump Street," some fans started to realize that 32-year-old Tatum could definitely fit the part of Christian Grey. Not only does he have a smooth and suave mentality, but his chiseled physique and uber good looks make him a fine contender. Tatum was never really a stand-out favorite to take on the coveted role (leave that to Ian Somerhalder, Henry Cavill, and Matt Bomer), but his name did continuously pop up in many "Fifty Shades of Grey" casting polls. Tatum didn't seem too interested in the casting rumors (although he did jokingly admit that he'd consider working in the film as long as his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum was cast as Anastasia Steele), so it's no big surprise that reports now claim he's basically out of the running. Are Mstarz fans disappointed or ecstatic over the news that Tatum most likely won't be taking his clothes off (again) on the big screen anytime soon?
"50 Shades of Grey" author E.L. James still won't provide fans with any clues as to who is actually in the running to play Christian Grey... although she did recently land in L.A. to meet with producers over the screenplay. James got some fans excited in late November after tweeting:
@E_L_James: "So... who do you want to play Christian Grey in the movie?"
While some took the post as a sign that casting might be decided soon, Entertainmentwise reports that James still insists that such decisions are a ways off. Even so, the British bestselling novelist claims that she definitely takes her devoted fans' opinions into consideration. She also told the popular gossip website that she doesn't plan on casting Grey based solely on looks... which is why the process takes so long - "I think emotional intelligence, a sense of humor [are important for Christian] ... those kind of things. I feel like we haven't gotten that far yet in the process, though."
So what do "50 Shades of Grey" enthusiasts think about the casting news update?
