Popular comedian Katt Williams has had a rather interesting past few weeks. It all started when fans sued him over a 'non-performance' in Oakland earlier this November, and ended with a violent bar brawl over the weekend that resulted in the 39-year-old being arrested and charged with assault. Williams was scheduled to attend an arraignment at a Seattle, WA municipal court on Thursday morning (Dec. 6), but the "Friday After Next" star was a no-show. According to Williams' attorney Thomas McAllister, the stand-up comedian apparently believed he wasn't expected to show up in court if he had a legal representative there to speak for him. Williams has already returned to California... the judge bought his story this time around, and rescheduled the hearing for next week.
Williams insists that he recently read a story in the "Seattle Times" where a spokeswoman for the City Attorney's Office mistakenly stated that he did not have to appear in court if an attorney was there on his behalf. Judge Willie Gregory rescheduled the arraignment for Wednesday (Dec. 12), given that Williams received "misleading" information. On Thursday (Dec. 6), the comedian was charged with three counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree assault stemming from several violent incidents in Seattle over the past weekend.
According to authorities, Williams was arrested Sunday evening (Dec. 2) in Washington for assault investigation of obstruction. Allegedly, the troubled comedian struck a man (Carlos Castro-Linot) with a microphone during a performance on Friday because he was angry the guy was recording his show - he also supposedly attacked a group of fans who merely wanted an autograph. On Saturday morning, he also got violent by throwing chairs at several other fans... later on Sunday evening he threatened the bar manager at Seattle's World Sports Grille with a pool cue and continuously harassed a family, woman, and other restaurant-goers in the parking lot. He was then promptly arrested and booked by responding officers.
Castro-Lino is seeking $250,000 in damages in a lawsuit against Williams and the Seattle Theater Group, stating, "Before the Nov. 30, 2012, assault, Williams had publicly demonstrated signs of mental instability that should have put STG on notice that Williams posed a danger to the audience." Apparently during the show, Williams unexpectedly "baseball-struck" Castro-Lino in the back of the head with a microphone. Allegedly the comedian then told Castro-Lino that he should "go home and get a gun" because Williams would be armed at the theater, waiting for him. Eventually, Williams was arrested and booked at the King County Jail on Sunday before being bailed out by pal Suge Knight Monday morning (Dec. 3).
