Season 3 of the sci-fi thriller Orphan Black continues on BBC America. In the upcoming Episode 7, as the truth behind the Project Castor Clones unravels, will Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany) be able to continue on with the mission after Paul (Dylan Bruce)'s death?

As we previously mentioned, Helena and Sarah found themselves trapped in the same prison cell. After an elaborate escape, Helena ended up betraying Sarah and left her behind. Meanwhile, Cosima has a new love interest in her life, Shay. In a shocking revelation, the male clones of Project Castor have been infected with a disease through spreads through sexual contact.

In the recap by the Wall Street Journal, Paul (Bruce) came back to rescue Sarah but found himself mortally wounded. Sacrificing himself, Paul helped Sarah escape, confessed his feelings towards her, and let himself get captured. Standing in front of Miller (Ari Millen) and Dr. Virginia Cody, Paul released the grenade and blew himself up.

In an interview with TV Line, creator/co-showrunner John Fawcett reveals Paul's death had been planned since the beginning, "We never knew where we stood with him. Was he a good guy? Was he a bad guy? Why is he doing the things he's doing? And we've come through the last bunch of episodes to realize why he's making the decisions he's making. And, at the end of the day, he makes the right choice and heroically throws himself on the bomb. Literally. It was the way we wanted to see that character depart."

Fawcett teases what Paul's death means to Sarah, "It's more important than ever that Sarah gets to the bottom of this - and not just for herself and for the safety of her immediate family. The driving force with Sarah is that she's really had to step up and become the leader. She's gone from being a teenage-runaway-reluctant mother, to having to be not just a responsible mother, but a leader. The one who is keeping the sisters together, and the driving force behind trying to find a cure for Cosima."

Season 3 of Orphan Black continues on BBC America Saturdays at 9pm.
