Casting the coveted roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele for the highly-anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James' erotica novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" won't start to happen until a screenplay and director are secured - British writer and actor Kelly Marcel is currently working on the screenplay... and is hiring a director finally in the works, too? According to reports, James (an avid "Twilight" fan... the hit vampire love series inspired her to write the "Fifty Shades" trilogy) recently met with Jack Morrissey for a private dinner. Morrissey is partners with Bill Condon - more popularly known as the guy who directed the final two "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" movies. So is it true that the critically acclaimed director (or his partners) might sign on to work with James on the set of "Fifty Shades of Grey?"

James has been very hush-hush about any details surround the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie - no matter how many rumors have surfaced about casting, the screenplay, and executive directing. But the author has let some hints slip on Twitter... she recently tweeted Morrissey on Dec. 8 to thank him for a "lovely dinner." The novelist recently visited L.A. to finally get down to some "Fifty Shades of Grey" filming business.

@E_L_James: "Thank you for a lovely evening @abstractway @Jack_Morrissey <3."

Why would James tweet about a friendly dinner if it didn't have something to do with business, right? Who knows, Condon may have even been at the dinner table discussing future "Fifty Shades" directing plans with them!

So what do "Fifty Shades" enthusiasts think about the latest director rumors? If hired, Condon would be sure to make one amazing film series - his past writing/directing work includes a variety of hits including the last two "Twilight" films, "Chicago," "Dreamgirls," and "Gods and Monsters." He also has some behind-the-scenes experience with erotica subject matter - his 2004 film "Kinsey" was all about strange and secret sexual desires. But given Condon's notoriety with the "Twilight" series, are some fans worried he'd be looking for another Edward and Bella when casting for Grey and Steele?

In other "Fifty Shades" related news, Channing Tatum and Keira Knightley are officially out of the running for the roles of Grey and Steele. James also got some fans excited in late November by tweeting:

@E_L_James: "So... who do you want to play Christian Grey in the movie?"

While some took the post as a sign that casting might be decided soon, Entertainmentwise reports that James still insists that such decisions are a ways off. Even so, the British bestselling novelist claims that she definitely takes her devoted fans' opinions into consideration. She also told the popular gossip website that she doesn't plan on casting Grey based solely on looks... which is why the process takes so long - "I think emotional intelligence, a sense of humor [are important for Christian] ... those kind of things. I feel like we haven't gotten that far yet in the process, though."

Fans should keep in mind... James is a huge fan of the "Twilight" series, so she might have just wanted to meet with Morrissey and Condon for her own personal joy (or merely for some directing advice).
