One Direction MTV Best Artists 2012: Call it ‘An Absolute Honor’ to be Number One

The British-Irish boy band, One Direction who have made the American girls go crazy with their catchy music. It is clear the year 2012 belonged to them. The Brit band has landed at the top and has been the number one on MTV's Best Artists of 2012.

The band has had two chart topping albums, "Up All Night" and "Take Me Home." They have toured around the world, they have won three Video Music Awards.

"MTV, we cannot thank you enough. Artist of the Year, it is an absolute honor," said Louis Tomlinson, four bandmates (Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Harry Styles) by his side, MTV News reported. "We've had an amazing year and this is the icing on the cake, so thank you so much."

"We want to thank you, MTV, for all your support," added Harry Styles. "You've supported us from very early on. And a massive 'thank you' to all the fans. This wouldn't be possible without you, so thank you once again. This is amazing and we'll see you soon."

They beat established artists like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and others.

The bands' track "What Makes You Beautiful" is top four on MTC's Best Songs of 2012. The band will start their world tour in February. They are also working on their 3D movie that will be directed by Morgan Spurlock and will be released Aug. 20, 2013.
