Hurt remains in good spirits despite the sad news, and has promised his fans that this diagnosis will not slow him down too much. He even cracked a joke in his official statement to the media (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"I have always been open about the way in which I conduct my life and in that spirit I would like to make a statement," the veteran actor announced in a statement released to the press this week, according to The Guardian. "I have recently been diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team. I am continuing to focus on my professional commitments and will shortly be recording Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell (one of life's small ironies!) for BBC Radio 4."

Meanwhile, Hurt has always been a busy actor, most recently filming The History of Love with costars Gemma Arterton and Sir Derek Jacobi, and a new Tarzan reboot/remake with Samuel L Jackson and Margot Robbie (via The Telegraph).
