Niall Horan and Demi Lovato Dating? Rumors Resurface, Stars 'Talk' Backstage at X-Factor, Selena Gomez Wants a 'Haylor' Romance?

Dating rumors surrounding One Direction heartthrob Niall Horan and pop songstress Demi Lovato have resurfaced after the duo were spotted hanging out and - gasp! - actually TALKING backstage during the recent finale episode of the hit singing competition "X-Factor" (USA). Definitely no signs of hugging or kissing, but if 20-year-old Lovato wants to get something going with the pop crooner, she better get her flirt on considering Selena Gomez now looks to be pining for Horan's attention! Is the former Disney starlet ready to follow in Taylor Swift's footsteps by repairing her recently broken heart (we're talking about you, Justin Bieber!) with some 1D love?

The boys of One Direction performed on the season 2 finale of "X-Factor" on Thursday night (Dec. 20), where Horan and Lovato were spotted exchanging a few friendly words backstage:

The two were never "officially" dating... but rumors have it they were spotted cozying up around L.A. on numerous occasions. The Horan/Lovato dating buzz started to die down after the summer... until now.

Meanwhile, gossip has it that "Spring Breakers" star Selena Gomez is ready to trade in one pop star heartthrob for another... that's right - the Biebs for Horan. It looks like Gomez would like a "Haylor" relationship of her own! (Taylor Swift + Harry Styles, get it)? One inside source explains (as reported by Perez Hilton):

"She has seen what has happened with her friend Taylor and how dating Harry is getting her to get over her relationship with Conor Kennedy. Selena has said that she wants to start dating someone else to see if there is something better out there. Wouldn't be surprised if Selena had a double date with Taylor and any of the single One Direction kids if she doesn't get back with Justin. But he cries over the phone and she takes him back again."

That single 1Der would have to be Horan... although another inside source recently explained to the Examiner - "Niall still has a crush on Demi Lovato, who's been Selena's friend for a long time. He wouldn't ruin his chances with Demi by dating Selena."

How sweet!
