Today marks two years since the world lost James Gandolfini. The actor, who gained an incredible amount of fame and notoriety playing Tony Soprano on HBO's The Sopranos, passed away back in 2013 at the age of 51 during a vacation in Rome, leaving us all feeling an incredible loss. And while Tony Soprano would go on to be his most famous role, the truth is that Gandolfini carried the weight in many of the films he appeared in. With that in mind, let's take a look at the top five roles Gandolfini held outside of The Sopranos.

ENOUGH SAID
As his second to last film, Gandolfini starred as Albert, a divorced man who kicks off a relationship with a divorced woman, played by Veep's own Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In the complete opposite of his Sopranos role, Gandolfini plays a lovable, soft, and sensitive star.

Of course, some might argue that Tony Soprano was quite sensitive... but he just didn't tell anybody.

THE MEXICAN
As Winston "Leroy" Baldry, Gandolfini plays a hitman who kidnaps Julia Roberts. It was a role that made Gandolfini a surprising standout, but of course, given his talent, perhaps it's not all too shocking.

NOT FADE AWAY
The 2012 film was a highly-anticipated reunion between Gandolfini and The Sopranos creator David Chase. It was Chase's first time directing a feature, and much like Tony Soprano, Pat Damiano was a rather emotionally and physically abusive character.

GET SHORTY
Before Tony Soprano, there was Bear. In the 1995 film Get Shorty¸ Gandolfini portrayed the bodyguard to Delroy Lindo who, in the end, he parted ways with to side with John Travolta, aka Chilli Palmer.

TRUE ROMANCE
In 1993's True Romance, viewers were able to see just what Gandolfini was capable of in terms of talent. As Virgil, the actor played a follower of Christopher Walken's character Vincenzo Coccotti, and appeared in what is often considered one of the most brutal scenes in film history: the fight between he and Patricia Arquette.

Now, because Tony Soprano will always and forever have a place in our hearts, let's check out the best of James Gandolfini in The Sopranos:
