USA's 'Complications' Recap: Episode 1: Pilot: Jason O'Mara's John Ellison, Jessica Szohr's Gretchen Meet!

After months and months of teasers and previews, Complications arrives on USA Network with its season premiere. From Burn Notice creator Matt Nix, In episode 1, will John Ellison (Jason O'Mara) and Gretchen Polk (Jessica Szohr) unexpectedly meet in the Pilot?

During a rainstorm, three robbers break into the house. John wakes up during the middle of the night when his dog barks. John wakes his wife, Samantha, and tells her someone is in the house. John grabs his medical kit and takes out a revolver. 

10 hours earlier, John is being evaluated for his mental state. He explains what happened before in the operation room. Running through the hallways, he used an IV stand and cracked a window, being up a group of thugs in the waiting room. He was brought down by security once everyone was down. 

During his session, John remembers losing his daughter. On Sunday morning, in a flashback within flashback, John is dealing with a list of patients, switching rooms around. He then sees Gretchen smoking in one of the rooms. After treating a patient, who might lose his foot, John jokes around with his son at the breakfast table. 

Just when he is about to have sex with his wife, the romance is ruined by the dog barking. John tries to stitch up a squirrel he found in the background. The event causes John's wife to break down, remembering their daughter's death. 

Realizing the squirrels is dead, John snaps and starts yelling violently in the van. After hearing gunshots, John races across the park and sees a kid bleeding on the street. With a car speeding towards him, he grabs the gun and starts shooting. 

At the crime scene, the driver is dead and the shooter ran away. John is being questioned by the police how he caused the car crash. Back at the session, he is being questioned about the 19-year-old driver he shot. Is he supposed to feel guilty?

The detective reveals that John was involved in the gang war. Samantha wraps her arms around her husband after he was released. She later discovers the boy he saved, his father is in prison. 

John makes a call to his hospital and checks in on the boy. His son, Ollie, wonders if his father had do something that hurts. John has been at the gun range, which explains how he shot the driver. He's upset to hear that his father is coming over to check up on him. 

During his talk with his father, who fought in Vietnam, John asks if he was good at war. His father then hands him the revolver. Haunted by nightmares, John goes back to work and sees gang members in the parking lot. 

After a round of applause, John checks up on the boy. He joins Gretchen as they check on a woman being abused by her boyfriend. After Gretchen warns he patient she is going to die by her boyfriend's hands, he gets into an argument with her. 

John and another doctor get into a fight with a badly bruised gang member. After getting stabbed, John realizes the gang member actually the one who ran away and was sent into the hospital to kill the boy. 

Refusing to go home, John is called again to the waiting room. There appears to be a turf battle going on inside the waiting room. He also find an overdosed patient and tries to revive him. Unfortunately, the patient is a goner. 

John gets a call from the boy's father. More gang members are coming in to kill his son. He needs John to save his son, or there will be more problems. 

He needs Gretchen's help to get the boy out of the hospital. Knowing the boy is going to die, Gretchen comes up with a different plan. He then starts a fight while Gretchen escorts the boy to an ambulance, taking him to another hospital.

Back at the session, if John is reported, the boy will be sent back and the gang members will find him. John is warned that he's playing God, which means there will be complications.
