The Daily Show host Jon Stewart sounded off on the murders of nine African-American men and women in an apparent terrorist attack at historical black church, Emanuel AME Church.

Thursday night, the Comedy Central veteran appeared emotionally moved when he announced to a full audience that he did not prepare a joked filled open-monologue telling fans, "I didn't do my job today," Stewart said looking straight into the camera lens, "And maybe if I wasn't nearing the end of the run or this wasn't such a common occurrence maybe I could've pulled out of the spiral, but I didn't."

The host urged people to see this incident in "black-and-white" instead of making excuses for the clear act of racism and explained how South Carolina still celebrates Confederate leaders -whose names remain on several roads -fought to keep slavery.

"'We've got to do whatever we can to keep Americans safe.' Nine people shot in a church, what about that? 'Hey, what are you gonna do, crazy is as crazy is, right?' That's the part that I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around."

He explained that he state still flies the Confederate flag over the Statehouse and still flown at full staff hours after the shooting, according to the New York Times.

"The Confederate flag flies over South Carolina, and the roads are named for Confederate generals," He explained, "and the white guy is the one who feels like his country is being taken away from him."
