Who should snag the coveted role of Christrian Grey in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James' hit erotica novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" - Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Stephen Amell... or what about "Snow White and the Huntsman" hottie Chris Hemsworth? The 29-year-old actor's name has been mentioned in several recent fan-favorite casting polls... but do "Fifty Shades" enthusiasts truly believe that Hemsworth's typical "burly, superhero-esque" Hollywood persona could emulate Grey's suave, sexual mystique up on the big screen? Not to mention that Hemsworth didn't express much interest in pursuing the role during a Celebuzz interview back in May... is the gorgeous Aussie just too shy for the part?
Hemsworth fits the age description of Christian Grey, and he definitely has the mega-attractive, chiseled looks to fit the part... but such strong physical attributes aren't the only things that make up the character of Anastasia Steele's kinky sidekick... a young, successful business man by day turned dominant, sex-fiend by night. As the popular gossip tabloid Celeb Dirty Laundry points out, Hemsworth "has become known for playing the burly-superhero-save-the-world type of character" in such hit blockbuster films including "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Thor," and "The Avengers." It's a known fact that James and "Fifty Shades" producers are not looking for an actor who has already been typecast in a specific movie genre role... so Hemsworth's "superhero" persona may be what ultimately keeps him from snagging the part of Christian Grey.
But it looks like Hemsworth may not even want to take part in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" film franchise... he's expressed no real interest in pursuing the Christian Grey casting rumors (even when the role was basically thrown in his face). During an interview in promotion of "Snow White and the Huntsman" earlier this summer, when the Celebuzz interviewer asks Hemsworth if he's ever heard of "Fifty Shades of Grey," he basically laughs off the question. The Australian native explains that he's never read the trilogy and doesn't know much about its appeal other than the fact that it's a "sexual, romantic, trashy... something (in a good way)." He concludes that he "doesn't know" if he'd be interested in playing the part of Grey:
Other reports have it that Hemsworth did actually do a few private "Fifty Shades" readings... but they were very forced and even somewhat awkward.
(Meanwhile Hemsworth's "SWATH" costar Kristen Stewart had no problem doing a "Fifty Shades" reading... the "Twilight" starlet is still a fan favorite to play the part of Anastasia Steele):
The bottom line is that Hemsworth just might be too busy to even think about taking on "Fifty Shades of Grey" - "Thor: The Dark World" comes out next November and "Rush" (a biopic about Formula 1 racer Niki Lauda) comes out in September 2013. Hemsworth is also currently filming "Robopocalypse" and a sequel to "The Avengers." Not to mention that Hemsworth is also a new family man... he married Spanish actress Elsa Pataky in 2010 and the couple just had a baby daughter this year. "Fifty Shades" might just be a little too much for Hemsworth to handle at this point.
Even so, many fans would still love to see Hemsworth cast as Christian Grey... and at this point, anything's possible!
