The beef between Brian Williams and MSNBC is deeper than just a few lies told on national television. Apparently, it goes as far back as 2012 when the staff of the left-leaning news network believed Williams arrogantly aired a piece that called MSNBC, Fox News and CNN blowhards. A few months after that piece aired the staffers were still angry with him. They were so angry they chanted "f**k Brian Williams" at their annual holiday party.

Now Williams has fallen from grace and is a part of the network he once did a scathing report on. At one point in his piece he described MSNBC as "corrosive and does nothing to help compromise in this country."

In that same report, correspondent Ted Koppel even called MSNBC "cheap."

"What works about cable television is it's cheap and it makes a ton of money," Koppel said. "There is nothing cheaper than a bunch of talking heads. The people who hire those talking heads have discovered the more irascible, the more partisan, the nastier they are, the bigger an audience."

One of the few MSNBC anchors that have gone out of their way to defend Williams is Rachel Maddow. According to her, she was happy about Williams joining MSNBC and that he deserves a second chance.

"Nobody at this company asked me to make this statement. It is quite possible that I'm causing some schpilkas in this building because I am talking about this," Maddow said. "I am really happy that Brian Williams is coming here to MSNBC and that's first because he has apologized. He has acknowledged what he did and he has apologized to it.  The other reason I'm happy about this is because of what he's going to be doing here," Maddow continued. "As I understand it Mr. Williams is going to have a work horse remit here anchoring breaking news events."
