PSY is retiring his 2012 hit song "Gangnam Style."

MTV News posted an interview with the 34-year-old entertainer on Dec. 31 where the rapper said he planned on ending his hit during his performance on ABC's broadcast of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

"Being in Times Square on New Year's Eve is already special - it's the biggest stage in the universe - plus it's my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of 'Gangnam Style,' " Psy told MTV News. "I mean, what better way to do it? It's my biggest and most meaningful birthday."

The South Korean rapper, whose real name is Park Jae-Sang, became a household name with his catchy hit "Gangnam Style," which reached the record of 1 billion views on YouTube in December.

"The song became too popular, and so you start to have some concern about its life period," PSY said about the large success he has had in the past year. "I'm really working hard on a new single right now, and I'm not saying ['Gangnam'] is ending on 'Dick Clark' - I still have a lot of invitations to perform it.

"I'll be in Paris, and in February I got invited to perform in China, and I've still got to do promo. So let me say that in America I need a new single because 'Gangnam Style' got too popular, so I've got to write a new single."

The song first appeared on YouTube on July 15 and has since made PSY a pop culture legend around the world.

The video, which pokes fun at a rich neighborhood in Seoul, has inspired plenty of copies, mash-ups and parodies by people around the world, including massive flash mobs of people imitating PSY's horse dance.
