July 4th is this coming Saturday. Which, of course, means that many of us will be attending or hosting BBQs in order to celebrate the birthday and Independence Day of this great land of America. Or, okay, let's be real – you're really just celebrating the fact that you have off from work and can drink beer and gorge on some grilled chicken and cheeseburgers. But if you're looking to spice the holiday up a tad, we've got just a few recipes that'll undoubtedly make your guests' eyebrows raise a bit... and not just because of spice.

So, before you light up those grills and get out that boring old pound and a half of ground beef, take a peek below at some popular 4th of July recipes. You might just find something worthwhile...

GRILLED SIRLOIN SLIDERS
A slight twist to the traditional cheeseburger, these mini-cheeseburgers are made of sirloin. Per a report from Health.com, this 4th of July favorite is such because not only are they cute, but they're also fast!

PATRIOTIC ICE POPS
Looking to show your pride? You know, other than that American flag tank top your Uncle Frank is donning. Try making some patriotic ice pops colorized in, you guessed it, red, white and blue. Check out the video for how to make it over on Health.

GRILLED ZUCCHINI & PARMESEAN PESTO
Instead of just grilling straight slabs of zucchini, try slicing it thinly, putting some homemade (or really, really good store-bought) pesto, and curling them up for a fancy twist on zucchini.

APPLE PIE
Okay, maybe this isn't spiced up, but it's an American tradition so why mess with perfection? Seriously, serve up some apple pie and your guests will be elated beyond belief. And if they're not, well, more for you.

BBQ FRENCH FRIES
Don't let the "French" fool you, right-wingers; these fries are as American as they come. Layer some barbeque sauce on them with hints of pepper, paprika and cumin and you'll be Amercan-izing the hell out of those fries in no time.

For the full (less sarcastic) list of recipes, head on over to Health.com. But first, don't miss this short history of the 4th of July.
