Stephen Colbert is getting ready to kick off the new Late Show on CBS, and to get himself prepared, he decided to host a public access show in Monroe, Michigan and interview Eminem. Or, maybe he wanted to do it for some other totally unknown reason. Either way, he did it and assured the world of one thing: he is still the man without his "Stephen Colbert" character.

In the below video of Only in Monroe, Colbert unveiled that his reasoning for hosting he show was in fact because he's been itching to host a program since The Colbert Report went off the air back in December 2014. So, since his theater isn't quite ready yet, Colbert opted to "head over to Monroe, Michigan, look around, and give it a Michi-gander."

Get it?

Anyway, further on down the show – way after he talked about the town of Monroe and what makes it "Mon-go" – Colbert invited in Michigan native Marshall Mathers to talk about his "up-and-coming" career. Mathers, of course, is known to the world as rapper Eminem.

"My next guest is a local Michigander who is making a name for himself in the competitive world of music," Colbert said, introducing the rapper. "Please welcome, Marshall Mathers."

Next, what went down was almost 20 minutes of the most gloriously hilarious, awkward and side-splitting comments that Only in Monroe has undoubtedly seen. Colbert played the part of the know-nothing interviewer, and Eminem played to it flawlessly.

Take a look at the video below. The interview with Eminem kicks off at the 22-minute mark:

So, can we all agree that Eminem needs to be on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert?

Look for the premiere of Colbert's Late Show this coming Sept. 8.
