Pixar's 'Inside Out' the Magic and Why the Film is Spectacular

Inside Out is just a perfect example of the challenges Peter Docter faces when he takes on a script. Docter previously directed one of Pixar's best and most successful films, Up. Opening weekend, the film grossed $90,440,272 in the U.S, and has grossed (as of July 1st) $208,335,932 total. Much like Docter's previous success, the film is enjoyable for both children and their parents.

The story begins when an eleven year-old girl named Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias) and her parents (voiced by Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan) move from a home in Minnesota and attempt to adapt to a more urban lifestyle in a San Francisco townhouse because Dad got a new job. This is a typical situation that many young children and teenagers can relate to and as the move and change comes into play, Riley's mood transitions from where she started: being dominated by Joy (Amy Poehler) who is determined to keep Riley happy as much as possible (so much so that she chastises Sadness (Phylis Smith) from touching any of Riley's core memories). This sets up for a whirlwind of emotions for Riley when in an accident in the Control Center of Riley's mind, Joy and Sadness are whisked away and the only emotions left in charge are Fear (Bill Hader), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Anger (Lewis Black). Not only are Docter's writing talents exemplified, but the casting is brilliant and the stars carry the story forward to its emotional core. Throughout the film, the audience is almost more dominated by the emotions in Riley's head than following Riley herself.

With Docter's storytelling and the dazzlingly talented voice cast, you can't go wrong with seeing Inside Out. It is still currently playing in theaters and if you need more incentive, you can take a look at the latest trailer here.
