Pop megastar Justin Bieber kicked off 2013 in a rather dramatic way... not only did he split from on-and-off again sweetheart Selena Gomez following a heated argument in Mexico, but the 18-year-old crooner is currently under fire after shady photos recently surfaced online of him allegedly smoking marijuana at a hotel party in L.A. Following all of the New Year's controversy, the Biebs tweeted that "everyday [I'm] trying to grow, learn, be better" - and that's exactly what he seems to be doing. Before performing at a Believe Tour pit stop in Salt Lake City, Utah Saturday evening (Jan. 5), the "Boyfriend" singer stopped by the Primary Children's Medical Center to visit Millie Flamm, a 7-year-old girl currently battling leukemia.
According to reports, young Flamm suffered a relapse two weeks ago and was too sick to attend Bieber's concert on Saturday, so was forced to sell her ticket. The little girl was so crushed that family and friends decided to launch an online campaign to promote Bieber's visit. When the big day finally arrived, the Flamm clan was worried that Millie wouldn't even be able to meet her pop icon because she was running a high fever and was on oxygen. But the Biebs pulled through.
Flamm's mother told the Deseret News that Bieber sang to Millie before handing the young girl his guitar pick... "She is squeezing on to it with all her might and will not let it go," Amanda Flamm said.
When the Biebs first entered the room, he gave little Millie a huge hug - "He was so sweet to her," Flamm continued. "He walked in and her whole face just lit up."
Before leaving for his Believe gig, Bieber gave Millie a quick kiss on the cheek, prompting the girl to turned to her mother and say, "You are never going to wash my face again."
Bieber also handed out free concert tickets to everyone in the hospital room. Amanda Flamm insists that the visit will definitely help Millie as she continues her cancer treatment - "It just has re-energized all of us... We are ready to keep going and fight harder with all this backing and this fun thing that has happened, and keep going and keep fighting."
Millie's dad Brad Flamm told ABC News, "A friend posted a picture on Facebook, and it's been shared thousands of times" -
On January 5 Bieber tweeted:
@justinbieber: "everyday growing and learning. trying to be better. u get knocked down, u get up... back on tour tomorrow. ready to see u all smile. time to do what im supposed to be doing. performing. #BELIEVEtour... i see all of u. i hear all of u. i never want to let any of you down. i love u. and..thank u. #beliebers... like i said...2013...new challenges. new doubters...Im ready. We are ready. see u all tomorrow and everyday after that. #BELIEVEtour."
