Based sci-fi buddy comedies, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, the Wild Stallyns are back with their comic book series. Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves) and Bill S. Preston (Alex Winter) are a hilarious and fun duo in BOOM! Studios' Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #5.

As we previously mentioned, The Great Ones have to fulfill their destiny and deliver their next big hit. Worried about becoming one-hit wonders, the slacker duo needed inspiration before they could achieve rock and roll greatness. Time traveler Rufus (a wonderful nod to the late George Carlin) provided some wisdom and set them again on the right path. In the fourth installment, the time-traveling duo discovered an alternate timeline where a younger Chuck De Nomolos has stolen their stardom and they are wanted men.

In the fifth installment, Bill and Ted realize they have to fix time-stream, if they can get back their loved ones. Knowing their family has been taken away from them, Bill and Ted need all the help they can get at this point. Help does arrive from the person you least expect.

Writer Brian Lynch does a wonderful job bringing Rufus into the fold. Because George Carlin passed away, it feels somber to see Rufus again but his character arc, in this critic's opinion, has come full circle. Rufus is portrayed in the series as the proud parent of two accomplished children. It's sad that Carlin isn't around but I do believe he would have been proud to see how his character develops.

Artist Jerry Gaylord does a great job bringing in a loose caricature of Rufus. You instantly recognize the late comedian in the character design. In his panel layouts, notice the angles as Rufus looks down at Bill and Ted, which again references the father and son themes.

A wonderful read, Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #5 still has one more issue left before its conclusion.
