Taft High School Shooting: At Least Two Wounded in California School Shooting, Gunman in Custody, Premises Evacuated [BREAKING NEWS]

DEVELOPING: Reports confirm that a gunman wounded at least two individuals after opening fire at Taft Union High School in central California (Kern County) on Thursday, January 10. The shooter was taken into police custody at approximately 9:20 a.m. The school premises has since been evacuated and parents were informed to pick up their children at the school's football field.

According to reports, at least two people were confirmed wounded during the school shooting that took place in Taft, CA (a community in the southern San Joaquin Valley) Thursday morning. The first victim suffered minor injuries and refused treatment and the second victim was promptly airlifted to Kern Medical Center... this individual's injuries have yet to be reported. Little details have been released in regards to the victims or the alleged gunman. The person currently held in custody is believed to be a student.

KGET-TV reports that three ambulances and a medevac helicopter responded to the scene at approximately 9 a.m. after authorities got a tip on the school shooting from people hiding in closets inside the building. Law enforcement are currently conducting a room-to-room search.

Taft, located 30 miles west of Bakersfield, CA, has an approximate population of 9,400 people.

This shooting takes place approximately a month after the heartbreaking school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT.
