Jimmy Fallon was in high spirits last night during his Tonight Show return. It was the first time the former Saturday Night Live player stepped onto the NBC stage since having seriously hurt his hand a couple of weeks ago. And while some attributed Fallon's nearly-amputated finger accident to him being intoxicated – as pictures were taken of him partying it up before the incident – the host explains that it all happened because of his wedding ring.

"I can't tell you how excited I am to be back," Fallon said, further noting that he's had a crazy couple of weeks.

"Basically what happened was I tripped and fell on a braided rug that my wife loves. I can't wait to burn it to the ground," he joked.

He then explained that once he got up he noticed that his finger looked "fake." After, upon visiting the emergency room, Fallon discovered that he didn't break his finger, as he thought he did. What happened was something called ring avulsion.

"My ring got caught on the countertop when I was going down, and stuck there, and pulled my finger off..."

Moreover, Fallon admitted that the doctor had to take a vein from his foot and place it in his finger.

Take a look at the full story told on last night's Tonight Show below:

The comedian went through a six-hour long surgery, was in the ICU for ten days and will not regain feeling back in his finger for eight weeks.

And here the media thought he was drunk and tripped. Sorry, Jimmy!

Readers, what do you think of Fallon's story? Or are you still gagging from Googling "ring avulsion"?
