The fallout between WWE and its once longest-reining modern era champion CM Punk is a sad one for fans. Between burnouts from the harsh wrestling schedule, and creative differences with WWE's writing staff, Punk walked out the door the night after the Royal Rumble. Since then Punk has called out one particular doctor in the company for not noticing a staph infection and now that doctor has fired back. Court documents reveal that WWE's doctor Chris Amann filed a Libel/Slander lawsuit against CM Punk and independent wrestler Colt Cabana for that revealing CM Punk podcast on Cabana's show. The Cook County Clerk of the Circuit released those documents.

It's unknown whether the case will go to trial but as of now all parties have their legal teams involved. That includes Cabana, who did nothing more than offer Punk a platform to speak. Both Punk and WWE's Dr. Amann have up to 28 months to exchange information, obtain medical documentation and depose witnesses. The ongoing battle between WWE and Punk will be going on for a bit longer, so don't expect any wild returns anytime soon.

You can listen to the podcast here:

When Amann first filed the suit he asked for more than $1 million in compensatory damages that he says, "undermined him." Amann says what Punk did was "highly offensive in that they accuse him of a gross lack of integrity as a medical doctor, an inability to perform his professional duties as a medical doctor, and in placing the financial interest of his employer above life-threatening health conditions of his patients."

In the podcast Punk is essentially being sued for the topic of Punk's concussions came up and the former champion recounted a story where Amann wasn't sure what to do and Punk called him one of the most "worthless pieces of sh*t I've ever met."
