Rapper Lupe Fiasco took the stage at a pre-Presidential Inauguration party on Sunday, Jan. 20 and was quickly kicked off by security after tearing into a heated anti-Obama rap. Fiasco was set to headline Hypervocal's prestigious event honoring President Barack Obama's second inaugural term, but the 30-year-old Chicago native instead took the opportunity to bash Obama's stance on foreign policy. The audience was left in an agitated state of confusion while Fiasco was promptly escorted offstage by several burly security guards. According to event organizers, Fiasco's performance was cut short due to audience dissatisfaction with his vocals.
The crowd initially dug Fiasco's performance... until he started bashing the re-elected Prez with lyrics including, "Limbaugh is a racist/Glenn Beck is a racist/Gaza strip was getting bombed/and Obama didn't say sh##/That's why I ain't vote for him/Next one either/I'm part of the problem/The problem is I'm peaceful." Some people in the audience began to verbally revolt as Fiasco continued to prance around onstage... and that's when the "Show Goes On" rapper officially got the boot. Check it out:
Following the pre-Inauguration onstage disaster, the startup group Hypervocal announced on its official Twitter page:
@hypervocal: "Disappointed that an artist took opportunity to use an event celebrating innovation/startups to make a political statement. #StartUpRockOn."
The pro-Obama organization StartUp RockOn then released a statement insisting that Fiasco was not kicked off the stage for his "anti-Obama rant," but because he left the audience "vocally dissatisfied." It was simply time to move on to another performance:
"StartUp RockOn is all about startups helping startups. At Sunday night's Inauguration Celebration at the Hamilton Live, organizers set out to honor innovative visionaries with grants, accolades and a party worthy of the success we achieved at the RNC and DNC this summer.
Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned. But Lupe Fiasco was not "kicked off stage" for an "anti-Obama rant." We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act. Lupe Fiasco repeated the one song for more than 40 minutes.
The party continued as planned, and we celebrated the announcement of CodeNow's winning the Grant Challenge. CodeNow is a non-profit startup based in Washington DC that teaches "underrepresented high school students basic skills in computer programming."
StartUp RockOn was founded last year by three startups: HyperVocal, EventFarm and Fighter Interactive."
What do Mstarz fans think... was Lupe Fiasco escorted offstage for his inappropriate lyrics made at a pro-Obama event?
